HANDHU– Fantastic purpose-built surf charter vessel

11 night charters - Malé, Maluku and Laamu atolls

Launched in February 2004, Handhu is a 90’ vessel built specifically for surf charters. Unlike other Maldivian vessels that operate diving charters plus some surf trips, Handhu is 100% exclusively for surf trips. The big interior saloon area is fully air-conditioned with all the latest electronic entertainment equipment (large flat-screen TV, DVD, stereo system, luxury massage chair, etc.) There is a huge lounge/dining area that easily seats a dozen guests in comfort.

The bar is well stocked with European beer, French wine and a variety of spirits plus soft drinks. Tea/coffee and drinking water is included in the package price.

Outside, the generous deck space has a large undercover alfresco lounge/dining area capable of seating at least 15 people. This is the most popular dining area as it allows guests to escape the hot Maldivian sun, yet still remain outdoors capturing cool ocean breezes whilst watching the surf break nearby.

An outside stairwell leads to a massive sundeck with bench seating around the perimeter and is the ideal party venue at the end
of a hard day's surfing, with a few cold drinks and the stereo pumping, whilst watching a stunning Maldivian sunset.

The aft deck is ideal for game fishing and even the most accomplished game fishermen will be impressed with the set-up.

There are 2 outdoor showers for rinsing the salt water off after your surf, snorkel, swim etc.

The cuisine is prepared by a resort-qualified chef with a strong European influences, Italian pasta dishes, salads along with fresh fish, vegetables, rice dishes, curry dishes and a variety of desserts.

Example Menu

- Pre-surf light breakfast: cornflakes, toast, bananas, tea or coffee.
- After-surf breakfast: eggs, toast, tea, coffee, fruit juice.
- Lunch: variety of pasta, fresh fish, salads, fruit.
- Dinner: meat dish, pasta, fish curry, vegetables, dessert.

You won't be losing any weight onboard Handhu, we keep your energy levels up at all times to compensate for long surf sessions!


Accommodation

This consists of 6 air-conditioned twin guest cabins (1 double/1 single bed per cabin). All have ensuite bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilet. All cabins have plenty of storage for luggage and clothes and power points for charging batteries.

Extra onboard equipment includes: snorkelling gear & basic fishing gear.

In 2008 Handhu will operate 11 night trips allowing you to surf Male, Maluku and Laamu atolls, experiencing a wide variety of waves away from the crowds.

Trips will start in Male' and end in Laamu (with domestic flight back to Male) or reverse direction. Please not longboard bags 8ft and over will be unable to travel on this trip as the aircraft cargo hold will not accommodate longboards.

Navigation and Communication: CD radio, mobile phone, GPS, search light, binoculars, plotting tools kit, compass and chart.

North Male’ atolls is becoming increasingly popular (particularly in Jun/Jul/Aug – the European summer holidays) hence we have been exploring the Inner atolls and found there is some excellent UNCROWDED surf in the South Male’ and Maluku atolls.

The South Malé atoll has several great set-ups that on large swells will be 2 ft smaller than North Malé breaks, however without the crowd factor. Our surf guides have extensive experience in this region and can make recommendations accordingly. It is only a 2 hour trip from the North Malé atoll breaks to the South Malé atoll breaks.

Maluku atoll is only an overnight trip from Male’ and hosts an excellent right-hander Boahuraa and anther left Mulah Kandu. These breaks have been rarely surfed and perfect waves usually go unridden whilst the higher profile Northern breaks are being surfed by a multitude of international surfers.

This trip was by far the best thing I have ever done!
All the guys agree it was the trip of our lives. The crew of the Handhu were so great and they waited on us hand and foot. This experience has sparked a flame in all of us and we will be trying do a trip every year now.
