HUDHURAN FUSHI RESORT - Formerly Lohifushi Resort.

BOOKINGS NOW OPEN for 2008 surfing season (May-October)

Hudhuran Fushi means Island of White Gold. The resort formally known as Lohifushi Resort has been completely refurbished and upgraded to a 4 star standard luxury beach villa resort.

The resort has been transformed to a modernised luxury island. The refurbishment included 137 guest rooms (beach villas) and also the addition of 26 new water bungalows to the room inventory. All beach villas are completely new with new interior and exterior architecture and design (see images on the right). All villas have thatched roofs, timber front deck, polished cement flooring, TV, Mini bar, bathtub and outdoor open air shower. Rooms have been expanded to approx. 44 sq/m per unit.

The resort is perfect for surfing couples, honeymooners, families or the boys looking to kick back in style.

Located in the North Malé atoll approximately 30 minutes boat ride from Malé airport. The resort is a 4 star multi-facility island paradise with sandy beaches, crystal clear pristine lagoons surrounded by coral reefs teeming with colourful tropical fish and, more importantly, it hosts a perfect left-hander which wraps around the south east corner.

Not only do you have access to the quality left-hander within paddling distance, but also use of the resort boats for transfers to the outer reefs, e.g. Cokes, Chickens, Sultans etc.

An expert surf guide is on hand to co-ordinate boat transfers for guests and ensure no communication hassles occur. Plus 2 boat transfers per day are included in the package price for surfers.

NORTH MALÉ ATOLLS

The Maldives experiences a similar surf season to Indonesia. The best waves can be had from March to October, with the biggest swells likely to occur in June/July/August. During these months the conditions are predominantly off-shore all day and the swell direction is mainly South South East (SSE). The surf generally ranges in size from 2-8 feet, however bigger days have been experienced.

A great variety of reef breaks exist ranging in intensity from quite mellow shreddable walls to gnarlier hollow pits. There is something for everyone.

In the North Malé atoll, between Malé and Thulhusdhoo there is an assortment of 7 breaks.

Jailbreaks is a classic right-hander that was previously off limits. A long down the line right-hander with 3 distinct sections including a mid barrel section. Rides of up to 300m can be had when its lining up.

Honky’s is located near HP reef just north of Himmafushi Island. It is a fast wrapping left at 4-6 ft and needs the right swell direction. Worth checking if Sultans is crowded.

On the other side of the channel you have Sultans. An easy right-hand take-off which leads you to an intense wrapping section at the end. Breaks 3-8 ft. Please note: this wave is the most protected from the southerly winds in the North Malé atoll and collects the most swell – so go there if it is small.

20 minutes further north you will find the right-hander known as Ninjas which breaks off Kani Resort. A mellower right-hander which can be quite fickle.

Directly opposite Kani Resort you have Lohis, a long whackable left-hander that breaks off Hudhuran Fushi Resort. A very consistent wave which has hosted the WQS O’Neill Deep Blue Open for the past 3 years.

25 minutes north of Lohifushi are 2 breaks opposite each other at a reef pass. The right-hander known as Cokes Colas breaks 3-10 ft and is fairly protected from the southerly winds that may affect other breaks such as Lohis. This wave has been well photographed and is the hollowest in the North Malé atoll. This will test your tube-riding ability. The left-hander known as Chickens is probably the fastest wave in the North Malé atoll. This wave holds swell size from 3 ft to well over 10 ft and provides rides up to 500m long.

Over the months of June/July/August the North Malé atoll surf breaks are getting busier due to the European summer holidays. Many nationalities of surfers flock to the Maldives over this period. The surf at this time is very consistent and can accommodate a large number of surfers spread-out over the 7 breaks in the atoll. If you are after less crowded conditions Mar/Apr/May/Sep/Oct are recommended. The swell over this period may not be as consistent as June-August however good waves certainly still exist at this time.

Subject: THE BEST HONEYMOON!!!

Just a quick email to let you know that Steve and I had the most wonderful Honeymoon at Lohifushi's Resort Maldives. Everything was perfect, from the flights, boat trips, accommodation, to the meals and facilities, thanks for organising it. It is the most beautiful place we have ever been and Steve got some fantastic waves, while I laid on the beach and worked on the tan. It certainly was not just a resort for surfers. We met some wonderful people from all over the world and the resort was just fantastic.

There is nothing we would change it was perfect!
Thanks again to you we can't wait to go back!!

Just a quick email to say thank you for organizing a fantastic surfing trip and romantic holiday away for me and my partner in October to the Maldives, this being my second trip there I was far more impressed with your overall services than with the previous company I traveled with.

As the owner of a successful Real Estate Company and being only 29 years of age you appreciate so much more the effort companies such as yours go to make your holiday that extra special, your entire team must be commended, especially going that “extra mile” that is not expected.

Keep up the great work and after getting engaged in the Maldives (on my holiday) I look forward to booking my next trip with you being a Honeymoon/Surf Trip but we wont call it that will we??

Good Luck with your business.

Well - that was pretty special - the best - thanks very much for suggesting it, as a surf resort it ranks the best I've been to and as a resort apart from the surf it ranks the best.

Sometimes a bit crowded (10 -15 guys sometimes, 5, 6,7 most of the time, 1 or 2 sometimes ) but just perfect really - my last two days there was no one out and I had 10 -15 good rides and everything came together, I had improved and really did all I thought I could do. Lohi's is such an amazing left - there's something for everyone there - you had to be pretty quick going down the line sometimes but I like that - it was only really in the last week that everything started to work for me fully - it was pretty big and onshore in the first week and I got hammered a bit and my water fitness doesn't seem to come through until a few weeks, but I am so happy now . - plus - when the surf was not good (not often) or I wanted a break from it, I got my open water diving ticket , the sea life is really prolific, much more so than Fiji or Samoa , the guys at the dive school were excellent and I in fact went on to do my advanced diving certificate too! A real bonus - I'm still thinking about all the things that happened, and my hammock from the palm tree over the sea ......... next year.........

Subject: Honeymoon at Lohifushi Resort

I decided to write this letter as I wanted to share this experience with other surfers.

I am 44 years old, live on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, still ride a short board and enjoy challenging waves.

In August 2002 I got married for the second time. My wife and I were looking for the ideal honeymoon location. We wanted somewhere that was exotic, romantic, relaxing and fun, but also had surf.

We thought about Fiji, Samoa etc., but there all outer reef breaks and require boat trips to ride them. That could be very boring for my new wife, who is not a surfer. We wanted somewhere that would suit both of us. Eventually we decided on Lohifishi in the Maldives.

We left for the Maldives with an overnight stopover in Singapore on September 2nd. Singapore- What a fantastic city! The shopping, the sights, the food & the people! What a great place to start our honeymoon & break up the trip. The next evening we flew to Malé where we were greeted by the Lohifushi island staff who whisked us away by speedboat to our island destination Lohifushi. We awoke the next morning to paradise. Picture, postcard perfect. A truly beautiful island. Coconut palms lining the sandy beaches & crystal clear water.

Lohi's, the left hand break on one end of the island, has the most perfect waves imaginable - 4-6ft offshore, minimal crowd (8 max) and
27 degree water temp, & just to top it off, the Surf Bar which overlooks the break. A great spot to take photo's, sip cool drinks & meet some amazing people from all over the world.

For the non-surfer there were plenty of other things to do, like, snorkelling, diving , canoeing, boat trips to other nearby breaks and much more. We even watched an inter-island soccer match.

The whole experience is something we will cherish for the rest of our lives. We couldn't have picked a more perfect destination for a surfer with a non-surfing partner. We're definitely going back.

So, all you surfers with partners, get on the phone, book your trip & get over there. I promise you won't be disappointed because there's something for both of you. Once again, thanks, you gave our marriage a wonderful beginning & it can only get better.
See you in the waves.
Tony and Petra McDuie
